Act

Launching my mental performance coaching business has been twenty years in the making, and also an idea born yesterday (metaphorically speaking). This is a paradox. These types of contradictions are inherent in all aspects of our life; a topic for another day. My larger point is that to some this dream might make all the sense in the world and to others it may seem a fool’s errand. To those that think it is an obvious step for me to take after decades spent as an elite athlete and doctoral student turned college professor and high-performance swimming coach, the fact remains that it was a terrifying step to take. All great ventures have two things in common — they are scary, and require action to set in motion. The easiest and hardest thing to do is start something. This is my dream; whatever your dream is, I’ll bet you have a million reasons why you haven’t started yet. Maybe you don’t think you have the money, or the expertise, or the time, or the confidence. The thing is, no matter how much of those things you accrue, it’ll never be enough to erase the doubt you feel. So if it’s ever going to happen, you’ll have to act in the face of fear. We think (incorrectly) that we need motivation to act. The opposite is true. Action is the fuel for motivation. Trust me, once you step off the cliff you’ll start flapping your wings as hard as possible to stay in the air! Every great thing in my life was born of action in the face of uncertainty.

I created this service to help others overcome their insecurities and fears to move forward and achieve greatness. Along the way I will also chronicle my own journey here, among other things. Let it be a reminder that all of us (even and especially me!) are afraid sometimes, but when we take action despite this and be incredible forces for good in the world.
